Jim Burnett founded the Office of James Burnett in 1989 and has dedicated his career to creating meaningful landscapes that challenge the conventional boundaries of landscape architecture. To date, Mr. Burnett has garnered over fifty design awards for projects consistently cited for innovative and iconoclastic redefinition of human interaction with the environment. In June of 2000, he was profiled in Landscape Architecture Magazine’s cover story “Firmly in Place” for achieving dynamic expansion in his design work, while remaining true to the firm’s original vision of humanization in health care and the workplace.

Mr. Burnett has taken a multi-disciplinary approach to his practice, often working closely with design teams of well-known architects, planners, artists, and other professionals, including doctors, scientists, and a diverse range of clients. In his work, ranging from corporate and educational campuses to urban design to resorts and visionary projects, there has been a particularly strong focus on designing landscapes that promote healthy living. His work and writings in health care design have been widely published and have changed the approach to creating healing environments, bringing the needs of the patients to the forefront of projects.

Mr. Burnett has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University and has been a member of the Louisiana State University Design Circle since 2000. He is an active member of the design community in Houston and Solana Beach and served as the President of the Rice Design Alliance from 2002 to 2003.
