The Office of James Burnett collaborated with S.O.M. on the design of a five-acre student housing campus for UCSD that accommodates 1050 beds and approximately 1000 parking spaces.

Designed to take advantage of ocean breezes and views, buildings are organized around courtyards, which facilitate student interaction. Parking occurs in the center under an impressive grove of trees where the view from UCSD’s main campus to the ocean remains unimpeded by the taller buildings.

To visually reduce the scale of the buildings, arbors line interior courtyards. Breaking up internal space are smaller sunken rooms and fountain courts, which provide more intimate areas for gathering or studying.
