McGovern Medical Hospital
Houston, Texas
As a part of its goal to meet the changing needs of its medical institutions, the Texas Medical Center has converted an abandoned Nabisco bakery building at 2450 Holcombe into a modern medical office space. The 14-acre site was renovated, complete with outdoor garden courts, new parking, and a perimeter stone and aluminum security fence. This new facility will house personnel from the hospital within the medical center, opening up space for more critical healthcare services. In addition to the Planning and Development Office for the Texas Medical Center, the master plan accommodates other tenants as well.
To make the building more attractive and to offer more inviting outdoor spaces, street trees, ornamental plantings, and several garden courts were also added. A bosque of Drake Elms set within a terrace of decomposed granite gravel creates a beautiful shade garden, while vibrant perennials and herbs add seasonal interest to other garden rooms.
