McKay Dee Hospital
Ogden, Utah
McKay Dee Hospital selected this 63-acre site for expansion and ultimate relocation of its regional facility. Surrounded by rolling topography and lush vegetation, this once agricultural site is ideal for a new healing environment.
In order to maintain and enhance the site’s unique and natural amenities, the design highlights distant views while preserving much of the existing vegetation and utilizing native plantings and materials in the courtyard areas.
In order to provide patients with the best views from their recovery rooms, the hospital was situated on the higher end of the site where the blue and green peaks of the nearby Wasatch Mountains are seen in the distance. Adjacent to the bedroom tower is a serpentine pond, a dining terrace, and a series of inviting courtyards, all linked by a winding path. A semicircular arbor frames one side of the dining terrace, inviting patients, staff, and visitors to relax in the shade and enjoy the views of the pond with its mountainous backdrop.
