Houston Police Officers Memorial
Houston, Texas
The Houston Police Officers Memorial was designed in association with Texas artist, Jesus Bautista Moroles. Dedicated to Houston Police Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, the Memorial is designed to honor and elevate those brave men and women who put their lives on the line daily for the people of Houston.
Modeled after the ‘ziggurat’ – a monument dedicated in ancient times to honor and worship – the sculpture rises up out of the ground in the center, while stepping down below grade on four sides. Names of those who have died in the line of duty are engraved on the central portion of the monument. Friends, family, and other visitors can reflect on these names from any of the four sunken amphitheaters.
Surrounding the monument is a promenade of flowering trees that frames the monument within the setting of Buffalo Bayou. The blooming of the flowers also serves to mark the occasion of an annual wreath-laying ceremony honoring those remembered on the Memorial.
