The Office of James Burnett was honored to be one of three firms selected to present an “Inside the Landscape Architect Studio” session at the 2009 ASLA Annual Meeting and Expo in Chicago, Illinois. Held at McCormick Place’s Lakeside Center, the national convention drew over 5,100 design professionals and offered a variety of educational sessions, project tours, and product exhibits.
The panel discussion involved president and founding principal James Burnett, FASLA as well as principals Chip Trageser, ASLA and Jereck Boss, ASLA. Moderation was provided by Timothy Baird, an associate professor of landscape architecture at Penn State. Following a brief introduction of the firm, a video presentation introduced attendees to “a week in the life” of an OJB designer. Compiled by staff from the Houston and Solana Beach offices, the video includes staff interviews, scenes from inside the studios and a selection of prominent projects.
The video was followed by a presentation of both completed projects and those “on the boards”, including the Park at Lakeshore East, ConocoPhilips Woodcreek Campus expansion, Omega at the Crossings, the Brochstein Pavilion at Rice University, the Annenberg Center at Sunnylands, Woodall Rodgers Park, and Myriad Botanical Gardens . The session was concluded by a short question and answer with active participation from students and professionals, including noted practitioner Peter Walker, FASLA.
To commemorate the firm’s 20th anniversary, attendees were offered complimentary copies of a retrospective publication of the firm’s work.
