Texas Tech Beautification Master Plan

Envisioned as key elements to the “Campus Beautification” master plan at Texas Tech University, the Dairy Barn Quadrangle and Broadway Entry Promenade was redeveloped and transformed to better accommodate students, faculty, and visitors.

The new tree lined entry promenade provides a properly scaled framework and arrival sequence for the ceremonial campus entrance.  New pedestrian promenades were added to improve access and integration to adjoining buildings and monuments. Open spaces were restored to enable campus functions and cultural events throughout the seasons. Additional ornamental plantings improved the visual experience along the pedestrian paths and roadways.

Set in a field of decomposed granite, two flanking groves organize the space between the Dairy Barn and the adjacent University Library. Beneath the tree canopy, moveable seating accommodates impromptu gatherings of students and faculty. Additional tree lined pathways and garden courts reinforce the framework of the Quadrangle. The soft grass of the open spaces invites groups or individuals to congregate in a rich campus environment.
