Texas Tech Medical Education Building

The 125,000 SF Medical Education Building, located at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso, is the second building to be constructed at the university’s newest campus. Surrounded by the rugged West Texas landscape, the campus grounds offer a series of tranquil landscaped courts, providing students a variety of spaces to study, relax, and socialize. A central dining court offers a meeting place for staff and students to congregate for lunch, as well as a place to hold special university events. Plants with current and historic medicinal properties were planted in the dining court to educate visitors on how important horticulture is to the medical profession. Located on the south side of the building is a series of smaller decomposed granite gravel study courts, complete with grass lawn panels for sitting, fragrant ornamental plantings, shade trees, and benches, allowing students a tranquil environment for breaks and studying.  Buffering the building from the parking lot is a transitional zone with drifts of native West Texas plantings, decomposed granite gravel, and beautiful palo verde trees.
