ASLA AWARDS 2016 DESIGN MEDAL TO JAMES BURNETT, FASLA

James Burnett, FASLA, Founder and President of landscape architecture firm The Office of James Burnett (OJB) is the recipient of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Design Medal. The award will be presented October 24 at the ASLA Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

This prestigious designation is awarded to design professionals in recognition of exceptional work sustained over an extended period of time. ASLA has selected Burnett as this year’s Design Medal recipient based on nominations set forth by colleagues and OJB’s expansive portfolio of award-winning projects.

President of award-winning landscape architecture firm to receive award at ASLA Annual Meeting

SAN DIEGO – June 28, 2016  The American Society of Landscape Architects today announced James D. Burnett, FASLA, President of nationally recognized landscape architecture firm, The Office of James Burnett (OJB), as the recipient of the ASLA Design Medal. The prestigious distinction is awarded in recognition of exceptional design work sustained over an extended period of time.

“I am truly honored to receive this medal from my fellow colleagues,” said Burnett. “OJB’s success lies in an unwavering design ethos which seeks to create memorable experiences that challenge the status quo and break boundaries. For 27 years our office has approached each design challenge in a collaborative way, focusing on creating timeless projects that exceed our clients’ vision.”

Burnett will receive the award at the annual ASLA meeting on Oct. 24 in New Orleans. The ASLA Board of Trustees selected Burnett based on nominations set forth by industry colleagues as well as his professional achievements spanning more than 30 years. In 2015 OJB was the recipient of the ASLA Firm Award for its renowned portfolio of work, including Urban Land Institute Urban Open Space Award-winning projects, Klyde Warren Park in Dallas (2014) and Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City (2015).

“His design practice has been of the highest quality and is especially noteworthy for the refined detail and adventuresome planting. Each project not only serves its local function, but importantly, extends into the culture at large,” said Peter Walker, FASLA, Founder, PWP Landscape Architecture.
