Hundreds braved a late summer rainstorm to gather on the 11th floor of South Station for the official opening of the mixed use tower in downtown Boston. Decades in the making, the official opening of South Station tower brought together city officials, the design and development team, and invited guests from across the region. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu congratulated the perseverance and ingenuity of the team gathered together, noting, “This is a trailblazing project, a national example for how cities can use air rights to bring new life and space downtown. This is also a crucial piece in the puzzle of a revitalized, prosperous post-pandemic downtown.”
Design partner Fred Clarke from Pelli Clarke & Partners shared his appreciation as well, saying, “It grew a soul that really makes it part of the city and that makes it a city within a city.
The project also includes the expansion of the South Station Bus Terminal, which increases capacity by 50 percent and creates seamless connections between bus, rail, and subway.
“It’s improving the commuting experience for all Bostonians, and it’s attracting forward-looking companies,” said Sarah Hawkins, CEO of Hines’ US East market.
Congratulations to our team, including Cody Klein, Drew Stangel, Sookyung Shin, Andrew Cridlin, Sam Partington, and Ryan Ort for the remarkable dedication to bring an 36th floor Pool Deck and 11th floor Sky Garden to life.
OJB was thrilled to stand with so many who helped bring this project to life.
The Sky Garden looked lush and inviting, and when the clouds parted, guests were treated to spectacular views of the Harbor and downtown skyline.
More than 13,800 plants and 60 trees create a tranquil oasis for the residential floors, with fire features and a walking path that demarcates garden rooms.
Earlier this month, our team was treated to a behind the scenes tour of the spaces. We welcome this new landmark to the downtown skyline.
