Plant Sciences Specialist

Located in Houston or Dallas.

The Plant Sciences Specialist is experienced in handling a wide range of responsibilities, including customizing plant palettes based on durability, beauty and regional suitability during the design process; overseeing plant installations; and providing long-term landscape maintenance consulting following installation of the landscapes. The successful candidate must be exceedingly well organized, flexible and enjoy the challenges of a fast-paced, energetic environment, sometimes under pressure. He or she should be proactive, resourceful, efficient and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Excellent verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail are keys to success.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plays a key role in the Design and Construction Phases by advising on plant & tree selections, planting soil strategies, and irrigation strategies
  • Assists clients with establishing & overseeing landscape maintenance services agreements to ensure the property’s landscape is green and flourishing
  • Generates and implements Quality Control strategies to ensure integrity throughout the design, installation, and maintenance phases of a project
  • Conducts job site and property inspections
  • Creates and maintains a detailed plant library for the firm
  • Uses expertise with local plants to provide education for the firm and consulting for new and existing clients

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences (horticulture, botany) or related field;
  • A minimum three years of work experience in horticulture, botany, landscape maintenance, or other closely related field.
  • A thorough understanding of pests, diseases, and mitigating strategies to ensure our built projects stay beautiful
  • A general proficiency of the following software systems: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • Experience in an Architectural, Landscape Architectural or Design firm a PLUS
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to comfortably speak with clients
  • Organization and time management skills, including an ability to manage and prioritize competing assignments
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

Landscape Architect / Designer

Located in Houston, Dallas, Solana Beach, or Boston.

OJB is currently accepting applications from mid-level Landscape Designers and Landscape Architects. Experience should include demonstrated success in project design, development, and construction.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparation, coordination and completion of design and construction document packages
  • Development of creative technical solutions
  • Coordination of design and engineering sub-consultants
  • Development of project specifications
  • Participating in project meetings and demonstrates competent understanding of assigned projects
  • Assisting with preparation of client presentations, plans, design studies and drawings, construction documents with support
  • Assisting with preparation of site analysis and conducts technical research as directed
  • Identifying and escalating project and client issues in a timely manner
  • Responsible for 1-2 special projects (technology, office management, file management, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Employment history in a fast-paced, design-driven studio environment
  • Experience working with project teams to produce documents for complex projects
  • An attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and MS Office
  • Proficiency in drawing conventions, file management, time reporting
  • Familiarity with VectorWorks, Revit Architecture, Lumion and/or Rhinoceros is a plus
  • 2+ Years Professional Experience in the Field of Landscape Architecture or Architecture
  • Education - BA in Landscape Architecture or Architecture

Construction Administration Project Designer

Located in Houston, Dallas, Solana Beach, or Boston.

OJB is currently accepting applications from Project Landscape Architects with at least 5 years of experience. Experience should include demonstrated success in project delivery and construction.

Responsibilities may include:

Construction Documentation Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the coordination and documentation of construction document packages. Generate necessary drawings and details required to communicate design intents.
  • Coordinate design & documentation with other consultants on the design teams. Attend and lead coordination meetings. Manage subconsultant deliverables.
  • Provide creative & technical solutions to complex design problems.
  • Perform quality control examination of construction documents to ensure accuracy of deliverables. Effectively communicate and resolve quality control issues and conflicts with designers, architects, and sub consultants.
  • Development of project specifications & bid documents
  • Assist project team with obtaining permits
  • Manage project delivery schedule and ensure project deliverables are issued on time and on budget.

Construction Administration Responsibilities

  • Manage the review of project RFI’s, Submittals, mock-ups, and change orders.
  • Manage delivery of project drawing revisions and bulletins.
  • Conduct site visits and generate field reports. Inspect installations and ensure compliance with the construction documents. Work closely with contractors and clients to ensure projects are built successfully.
  • Generate preliminary project construction budgets.
  • Perform constructability review of project deliverables prior to the documents being issued. Assist designers in the generation of custom details.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelors or Masters’ Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Proficiencies, experience, and skill-sets necessary to performing the required job responsibilities.
  • Experience working with project teams to produce construction documents for complex projects.
  • Experience in Construction Administration and/or experience overseeing the construction of projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to others.
  • Experience directing the work of others to produce results.
  • Demonstrated technical skills, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, LandFX, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Revit, and MS Office
  • Professional licensure a plus but not required
