OJB is currently accepting applications for an internship in our Houston, TX office with knowledge about public health and policy and with a passion for reading and research. Deep knowledge gathering around major transportation threads and how they intersect with public parks to create guiding principles in a digestible format. The goal is to create a knowledge base of the impacts of these landscapes, to equip landscape architects and their partners to advocate for the most responsible design and program recommendations (evidence-based design). A major outcome is the development of a treatment plan that is adaptable to the many conditions where the urban landscape interfaces with major transportation.


The ideal applicant will be knowledgeable about public health and policy, with a focus on disease prevention, environmental toxicity in urban environments, education, statistics and laws. The applicant will display a passion for reading and research, strong organizational skills, knowledge creation, and multi-disciplinary interests in such fields as urban planning, engineering, landscape architecture, public policy, etc. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, healthcare or related field required.
  • Studying towards a Master’s in Public Health or Public Policy is desirable.  
  • Works well in a team.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are must. 
  • Graphic and data visualizations skills in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Rhino and GIS are a plus. 
  • The applicant must be available to work Summer of 2019.

  • Interns are paid on an hourly basis.  
  • Living arrangements and transportation are the responsibility of the intern.  
  • Terms of internship duration, including start- and end-dates, are open and to be negotiated between the student and OJB management, but should not be less than 12 weeks.
