OJB on the Road in October 2023

October is conference central, with several OJB folks adding to a wide range of professional discourse. Hope to see you at one of these upcoming events. 

Kicking it off in Houston, OJB partner Chip Trageser will be presenting with University Architect Jim Taylor of the University of Houston at the SCUP Southern Regional Conference in Houston on October 2nd. Chip and Jim will be discussing UH’s Centennial Plan, focusing on landscape and the spaces in between as builders of campus community and engagement. Next up on October 5th, founder James Burnett will be presenting at Duck, Duck, Shed, the second annual conference celebrating Las Vegas Architecture, Design and Culture: duckduckshed.com. Jim and Jerry Van Eyck are in conversation around the imperatives of public space in a desert climate, from the design of the Las Vegas Civic Center Plaza to The Park along the strip. Jim Burnett’s next talk is on October 13th, where he will be a guest of Utah State University, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. In addition to studio visits, Jim will be presenting The Vern Budge Lecture entitled, New Strategies for Public Space. Partner Cody Klein is on a distinguished panel in Boston, moderated by NAIOP Massachusetts on October 18th presenting the long-awaited development at South Station. Cody will be joined by Sarah Hawkins from Hines, Fred Clarke of Pelli Clarke & Partners, and other collaborators, as they discuss the vision for the transit station tower development and its presence on the Boston skyline.  

Next up in Nashville, principal Christa Mahar will be presenting at the Women in Residential and Commercial Construction Conference on October 26th. Presenting with Laura Rushfeldt, AIA of CBT Architects, they will be discussing how equity and DEI measures, in particular the JUST certification, can build both culture change and business success. Ending the busy month in Minneapolis, partner Dillon Diers is presenting on a stellar panel with Michael Grove of Sasaki and Lucinda Sanders of Olin. Their education session at the national ASLA Conference is on performative landscapes in large public parks on October 27th at 3:45 pm.
